Hi everyone,
I am a new mammy (well mammy to be) and I am blogging about my life, my pregnancy/parenthood and beauty.
Everything I mention has been bought and paid for by myself (or as a present off family members) unless otherwise stated (so probably everything is bought by me ☺) and all opinions are my own.

Breastfeeding

Hi guys! ☺

This post is all about breastfeeding. For those of you who don't know, I am 34 weeks pregnant with my first child. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm sure I will learn as I go along ☺ but I do like to have advice on all of the different things involved in raising a child.
A major thing that I have thinking about lately is breastfeeding. Personally I want to try it, but I also have formula and bottle feeding kits just in case.
Myself and JJ went to an antenatal class a couple of weeks ago and breastfeeding was mentioned. Now, although I do think that I want to try it I know that some people can't (my mother couldn't express milk for me or my sister ), and some people don't like it (this may happen to me I won't know until I try) so I wanted information on the best formulas to use etc. However, the midwives at the antenatal class were very much 'you will breastfeed' rather than being helpful
They were asked how to tell if you're producing enough milk for the baby, how to tell when is best to start bottle feeding if you don't think you are doing well breastfeeding etc and they all just said 'you will produce enough, you don't need to know about bottle feeding'. Well I think that is my decision to make!
I have been told stories by people who have tried breastfeeding  but found it too painful the first few days so decided that it wasn't for them (and that is their decision) and everyone I know that has breastfed have all said that it hurts at first, but the midwives genuinely said 'breastfeeding never hurts, if it hurts you aren't doing it right and are harming your child '
I get that everyone is entitled to their opinion and theirs is obviously that breastfeeding is best, but surely it is their job to make sure that all parents have all the information?I don't force my opinions on other people and I don't feel comfortable when people do that to me!

I would love for people to get in touch with me and share their experiences of how to feed their baby!I need all the information I can get lol.

Things people have annoyed me with during pregnancy

Hi guys ☺

Firstly I would like to apologise for a lack of posts recently, I have been quite busy and also quite ill, and some things happened in my personal life which made me not really want to be very social but I thought I would try and make an effort today  ☺

I want to talk about some of the inappropriate things people have said or done while I have been pregnant as they are probably quite funny but annoyed me at the time.

🍼touching my bump- I am sure I have mentioned this before but I still don't know why people I barely know and have only spoken to maybe once feel like it is okay to touch my tummy, fair enough usually they are also talking to it at the same time but still. No one goes up to someone they barely know who isn't pregnant, touches their tummy and says things like 'oh hasn't it got big!' So why is it okay just cos there is a baby in there? !

🍼telling me Im fat- I don't mean jokingly saying 'ooh someone's been eating all the pies' because I have a bump...I actually find that funny and have called my baby my little pizza baby at one point...but someone at work genuinely just calls me fat all the time (other than bump and boobs I haven't actually changed size so can still fit into most of my size 8-10 clothes) and says things like 'oh you get out of breath easily cos you're so fat' errr no I get out of breath because I have a baby kicking me in my ribs and it hurts and is probably squashing my lungs a little too.

🍼telling me I will need to go on a diet as soon as I have the baby- this is the same person funnily enough. I was talking to my friend about how I want to take the baby swimming when it's still a young baby and colleague pointed out to me that I need to go on a diet immediately and start exercising because I will still look fat! I pointed out that my baby comes first and I will lose the baby bump eventually and she told me that she would be embarrassed to be walking about with a huge tummy! Then went on to make me cry by talking to other people about how she could never just accept being fat like me and would need to skip meals! You can tell she has never had kids!

🍼telling me that they had a conversation with their husband (who I have never met ) about the size of my boobs - this isn't even that bad I just thought it was a weird thing to say to your husband over the dinner table 'oh you know that girl at work you've never met I think she's pregnant cos her boobs are massive now' er...okay!

🍼telling me I'm a wuss if I have pain relief during birth- yeah I know I'm a wuss I admit it. I faint with needles and I cry if I walk into something, I know I won't cope with the pain of birth so I am quite happy to admit that although I will try my best, at some point I will need pain relief.

🍼taking bets on the colour of my baby's skin- this isn't as random as it sounds, I am white and my husband is white but his mother is not and neither are any of her other children so it could be that my child might be slighter darker skinned than me. However, taking bets on this is probably a bit racist and also a bit wrong!

🍼asking if my husband is the father...but not in a jokey way- yes this actually happened, no I have never cheated on anyone.

🍼telling me my baby will be ugly because it could be ginger- again my husband is ginger so my baby could be too, but my husband was a very cute child and only has the orange hair not the ginger skin to go with it (he tans a golden brown colour and doesn't have freckles). My baby will still be gorgeous regardless of hair colour.

🍼telling me they don't think my husband would make a good father and asking if I would trust him to look after the baby- well firstly they have never met him so I'm not sure what they are judging that on!and secondly if I thought for one minute he wouldn't be a good father I wouldn't be having his child. Obviously. He isn't violent, he isn't a danger to children, he is a normal man so why wouldn't I trust him to look after his own baby? Yeah it's his first baby but it's mine too!

These are only a few of the things people have said to me while I have been pregnant and although none of them are really bad they have all annoyed me in some way and I would dream of saying them to someone else!

Has anyone else experienced things like this?

My trip to York with the besties

Hi ☺

I haven't been out with my friends in quite a while (well except for a couple of weeks ago when we went for a meal) so we decided to go to York as we wanted to go to bettys for ems birthday.
B drove, and we did get a little bit lost but unlike me she handles it calmly whereas I would have been stressed and probably shouting at the sat nav! 😂 I'm not good at driving places I don't know!
Anyway, we got to York at about 11am and headed straight for Bettys as we were all quite hungry.  Surprisingly there was no queue and we were seated downstairs straight away.
As I am pregnant I couldn't have poached eggs which I was gutted about, so I ended up having a toasted muffin with scrambled eggs and bacon with hot chocolate, and b and em had poached eggs and bacon on toast with a pot of breakfast tea each.
Oh my word I can't stress how amazing the breakfast food was!We all said hoe gorgeous it all was, and even I was no longer jealous of their poached eggs after I had a taste of my delicious scrambled eggs! I have no idea how they did it but it was genuinely the best scrambled eggs I have ever had in my entire life!!The bacon was cooked to perfection too! I very nearly swooned!
The tea came in a tea pot with the name of the tea on a label so they knew what they were drinking,  and they had a choice between milk and lemon to have it with but they both chose milk. A little tea strainer is provided which you place over the cup when you pour the tea into it which I thought was super cute! The cups were all China cups, including my hot chocolate cup which I loved (and shouldn't have been surprised at really as apparently the only way to drink tea is in a China cup not the Disney mugs I provide at my house 😂). They were also given a pot of hot water to top the tea pot up with which I thought was a nice touch.
After the breakfast food we decided we wanted cakes, and everything looked super delicious!! B decided that she couldn't go to Bettys and not have a scone so she got a scone with jam and cream (which you put on yourself, and b eats hers the way I do with the jam on first then the cream), em got a torte  (I can't remember the name but it had hazelnut and almond in it?) That she loved but couldn't eat it all and I got a lemon curd torte that I fell in love with. I love lemon flavoured desserts but a lot of the time the lemon is too tart or bitter for me but this was perfect! We all had a taste of each others dessert, but I secretly thought mine was the best!
Altogether it came to £47 which was actually cheaper than I thought it was going to be, and I would say definitely worth the money as everything is so gorgeous and the staff are so friendly!!

Em bought her fella a little cake from the shop upstairs but b and I decided not to. As well as cakes and some savoury foods, you can also buy tea and coffee and hot chocolate from the shop too but it seemed a bit too expensive to me and I couldn't justify spending £8.50 on a small bag of hot chocolate!

After Bettys we did a little bit of shopping and went into some little shops selling vintage homeware that I would never gone into myself but b is really into things like that and honestly there were some lovely things!

After a little while b and em decided they wanted another cup of tea so we went on the hunt for another tea shop. We eventually found one but we all ended up getting milkshakes (they copied me) which were nice but not that satisfactory, b bought her fella a cake from there and em and I eyed up the birthday cakes until we realised they cost over £100!!

We were in York for about 5 hours and then went back to ems house for tea (and a glass of milk in my case) and then went home.

It was such an amazing day and I had a fantastic time and I would recommend Bettys to anyone going to York!

What I did when I couldn't feel baby move

Hi ☺

As some of you may know (I think I mentioned it on twitter) I had a bit of a scare this week!
On Wednesday I didn't feel the baby move at all from Tuesday night, and at about 11am I was very panicky! If you are pregnant you will know that your baby develops it's own little routine, and mine always kicks and moves about when I first get up on a morning, and doesn't stop until I get to work usually. As baby hadn't done this I was a bit nervous but thought maybe it was just sleeping a bit longer.
So I tried everything I could think of, I had cold drinks, sugary drinks, chocolate, I jiggled about a bit but nothing would make baby move!
I'm not going to lie and say I handled it well because I didn't,  I spoke to someone at work about it (she has 3 kids) and cried a bit fearing the worst and she advised me to ring the antenatal clinic.
I work in a hospital so it was easier for me to ring there than my own doctors, and the lady who answered the phone was lovely and managed to get the nurses on antenatal day unit to agree to see me. I told my boss and he said I could go straight up to the ward.
When I got there I realised I didn't have my notes with me but they were able to find my details easily on the computer. They attached a foetal heart monitor to me (the baby was in an awkward position at first so it took a few minutes to find it) but the relief that I felt was immense when I heard baby's heart! It was then that baby started kicking and I felt a bit stupid for over reacting as obviously baby was fine!
The nurses decided to monitor the baby anyway so strapped the monitor to me and gave me a clicker which I had to press every time I felt the baby move for half an hour. Well, baby decided to take that time to kick me constantly, probably for waking it up!
After half an hour it was decided that baby was fine and had just been feeling a bit lazy that morning. I felt so embarrassed but the nurse reassured me that I had done the right thing and any time you can't feel the baby move for more than a couple of hours it is Natural to worry and you should get it checked out just in case

I would just like to point out that the nurses were the loveliest people I have met so far in relation to my pregnancy and they completely put me at ease.
Everything is fine with the baby now and it moves about every morning again, probably so I don't wake it up with cold monitors again! 😉

I thought I would write this post to encourage anyone who is worried about not feeling baby move to do something about it because sometimes it can be serious, and even if baby is just being lazy the nurses and midwives deal with this every day and won't judge you at all for being over dramatic like I thought they would.

Weekend presents

Hi ☺

I have been a very spoilt woman this weekend, we received presents from JJs cousin for the baby and I got a present from JJ  too!

On Friday I had a very stressful day at work and JJ didn't answer his phone all afternoon which is very unlike him and I must admit I did over react and get a bit panicked! But when I got home, before I went out with my friends, he told me he had hid three presents around the house for me to find!!
They were all related to each other and were a links london necklace and two charms. The necklace was off him, one charm was off him and baby and the other was just off baby. the charms are so gorgeous and thoughtful, there is a star with 'due on' a tag with 'arrived on' and a foot. All three are going to be engraved when we have the baby with the correct dates and the baby's name! It was such a thoughtful present that I actually cried!! I wasn't expecting  it at all, and JJ told me it was because I had coped really well with the pregnancy so far and he wanted me to know how proud he was with me! I didn't think he could ever be so thoughtful and romantic!

JJs cousin also sent us a present which we weren't expecting for the baby which made me cry a little too (apparently people being kind will make me cry). We got a white and purple cardigan with smiley face buttons and matching hat, and some cards that you use in pictures with your baby to mark the milestones of the first year like first smile, first step etc.  They are so cute and I can't wait to use them!!

Have you got any unexpected presents?

31 weeks pregnant update

Hi ☺

So I am now 31 weeks pregnant! It's getting scarily close!

My morning sickness is still there and I have been living off gaviscon for heartburn! But baby seems to have got into a routine and I now know when baby is likely to move about and when it will be sleeping which is so cute!! Sometimes when it kicks it even leaves it's little foot out a bit which I love to feel!
I had my 31 week antenatal appointment on Wednesday and Met my actual midwife for the first time- the midwife I have seen for the past few appointments apparently wasn't my midwife! I didn't get offered the whooping cough vaccination like the previous midwife said I would so I'm a bit worried now and just hope I get it offered it at the next one!
I was told my haemoglobin was low, although when she told me the actual value it isn't that low at all and nothing really to worry about (I know how to interpret results through my job) and my mcv and iron was fine so I'm not concerned.
She measured my bump and felt the baby but didn't tell me what position the baby was lying in or anything! It was a very weird appointment because other midwives kept coming into the room to chat with my midwife which I didn't like as surely it's the same as a normal appointment and we should be allowed privacy? They also kept insulting my colleagues who work in the blood bank in the hospital which I thought was a bit unprofessional of them.

My blood pressure was fine and everything else seemed okay so I have another appointment at the end of the month.

I keep having cramp like pains at the bottom of the bump which I think is just the ligaments stretching or some forms of braxton hicks but I'm not overly worried!
The cramp in my legs overnight have disappeared now!!now I just wake up to go to the toilet and the baby likes to move around at this time which is cute ☺

We have finished the furniture in the baby room and I think we have bought everything we need for the babys arrival now ☺ JJ bought the baby bouncer yesterday which was a surprise and I love it!

I've had to buy bigger clothes and got mostly dresses as I'm still all bump!everyone keeps telling me how lucky I am not to have put weight on anywhere else ☺

I think that's everything since my last update ☺

April favourites 2015

Hi ☺

I love reading monthly favourite posts (and watching them on youtube) so I thought I would join in with my April favourites.

Skincare

This month I have been loving benefit eye cream. I stopped using eye creams for a while but as my already bad sleeping became even worse I decided that I should probably start wearing it again. I have two sample size pots of this, and I love it! It's creamy and very cooling, and makes my eyes feel a little less tired when I first apply it. It sinks straight into the skin and is quite a light consistency which is perfect.

I have also been loving clinique smart custom repair serum. JJ bought me this in Mexico last October but I stopped using it when I became really ill with my pregnancy and stopped doing my skin care routine. I started using it again last month and my skin seems so much happier. It is quite expensive but a little goes a long way.

I think my favourite thing this month will probably be my garnier micellar water for oily combination skin. Again, a little goes a long way and this removes all of my makeup without any fuss, and is very simple to use!perfect for me being lazy at the minute.

Makeup

I don't have any makeup favourites this month 😐

TV

Revenge is keeping me on tenterhooks lately,I thought I was over it but then it became good again! I love how this series is a little less revengey than the last series, and Emily is starting to realise the consequences of her revenge. It is on e4 at 9pm on a Monday for those of you who want to watch it but I think this series is nearly over now.

Made in Chelsea is another of my favourites this month as ashamed as I am to admit it! I love how they are so far away from my life, and are all so posh!I'm not going to lie though I do watch it for the relationship dramas!!

Books

I love reading and I do go through quite a few books per month (making the most of it before the baby comes) and I do mostly read chick lit, and this month I read a book that I literally couldn't put down. Thirteen weddings by Paige Toon is funny but also keeps you guessing right till the end. It starts with a one night stand and ends with everybody being in love with everybody else (well that's not quite how it goes but I don't want to spoil the story). It is relatable as the characters struggle with their own consciences about what to do when they are in a relationship but have very strong feelings for someone else, and what happens when you choose the wrong person.

Think that's everything for this month!!
What are your favourites?

Baby essentials: bathing

Hi ☺

Again there are probably things that I haven't bought yet that we probably need so please let me know if you think of anything ☺

So far we have:

🍼a bath support - we decided (well I decided) that we didn't want a baby bath as the baby would probably grow too big for it quite quickly and there were things I would rather spend the money on than wasting it on something the baby wouldn't be able to use for that long. There are some very cute baby baths and it would be nice to be able to bath the baby downstairs but in the end we decided a bath support was the best way to go for us. We got the angelcare soft touch bath support as it seemed like the best one we saw at the time and was quite pretty too! Apparently we can use it while the baby is in the bath alone (obviously we would be holding the baby and in the bathroom with the baby it would just be the only person actually in the bath) or while we are in the bath with the baby but I'm not sure how I feel about this. There are many other bath supports to choose from, some are like sponges or foam and others are just like plastic seats but I'm sure they all do the job equally well so it is just down to personal preference I think. My mam told me that she just had a plastic seat that stuck to the bath for me and my sister and she just used to put a flannel around the bit that goes in between the legs to prevent any rubbing there and we turned out fine!

🍼Johnsons first toiletries- we couldn't decided whether to get the normal johnsons range or the range designed for newborns so we went with the newborn range. There is an offer on at asda for the normal Johnson range that comes in a big purple box and is only £10 currently but they had none in stock when we went. There is also a johnsons new baby range set but I worked out that it would be cheaper for us to buy each product individually as we didn't need the changing mat that comes with the set. We got the shampoo, all in one wash, moisturiser, and barrier cream I think. They all come in cute little white bottles and I think that they are currently £1.75 each in asda.

🍼cuddle and dry towels - so far we have three of these. I wanted the nice pastel coloured ones but JJ wanted cream ones and he had the bank card to pay with so got his own way 😂 my mam told us that we didn't need these as any fluffy towel from asda would do but I like the idea of the cuddle and dry towel and I think the material would be better for the baby.

🍼baby sponges- I wanted face cloths too but JJ decided that sponges were enough. We have 3 yellow ones for now,  although they are still in the packet so I'm not sure how soft they are, although they are suitable from 0+months so they must be soft enough for a newborn.

🍼bath toys- I haven't actually bought any of these, my mam has bought them all! We have monkeys that squirt water, which I think is cute as the baby will have fun with them with us just squirting them for now, and when the baby is bigger it can play with them itself. We have one orange and one green one. We also have rubber ducks as who doesn't like them! Both sets of toys are suitable for 0+months babies. We are planning on getting more bath toys but I haven't seen any that I like just yet.

Is there anything we have forgot or anything you would recommend that we get?

Baby essentials:feeding

Hi pixierinos ☺

I thought I would start a series on my blog about what we thought were the essentials that we bought.  I am starting it off with feeding time essentials.

Before I start I want to mention that I do want to try to breast feed but I am aware that not everybody is able to (my mam couldn't) so we have things for both breast and bottle feeding just in case. I would hate to have only bought things for breast feeding and then be left struggling if I couldn't do it!!

I am in no way an expert (I'm whatever the opposite of an expert is!!) So there is a very good chance that we have too many things we don't need and not enough that we do need!!

Tommee tippee starter kit

We got this when it was on offer in asda in the last baby toddler event, it was actually the cheapest set even though it had more stuff in it! !
It contains:
🍼a steriliser- I guess we would need one of these regardless of whether we bottle or breast feed for when I use a breast pump and put the milk into the bottles so JJ can feed the baby. It is quite big and looks as if it fits 6 bottles in it. I haven't actually figured out how it works yet but it is electrical.

🍼 a travel steriliser - I thought this was a fab idea for us as we are always out and about, and means we don't have to worry about taking millions of bottles with us, we could just take a few but take formula or milk storage cups and reuse the bottles. This is probably not going to be used when we visit my family as we go there for a few days and only one bottle can fit in it at a time but would be perfect for visiting his family as we are usually only there for a day!

🍼 bottles- self explanatory really! Although these bottles do come with extra teats which I thought was quite good!they are just the plain bottles, but will be good enough to feed the baby and I think tommee tippee are a good brand (initially we couldn't decide whether to get those or the Phillips avent brand). I'm not sure how many bottles are actually needed though so please comment below!! There are different sized bottles so we won't have to buy more as we increase the amount of milk given to the baby.

🍼a bottle brush - I thought this was a handy thing to include as it is something everyone will need to help clean the bottles!

🍼tongs - to ensure that we can reassemble the bottles without touching the teats so they keep sterile for the baby.

🍼insulated bottle bags- for when we are on the go,  I thought this was a really good idea. I think there are 2 or 3 of them.

🍼storage cups - for pre measured amounts of formula for when on the go.

🍼a soother- just a plain see through one

🍼food and bottle warmer- again this is electrical and will come in handy for baby food or for when we are warming bottles up at my parents house as we will use the perfect prep at home.

As well as the starter kit we also have:

🍼6 coloured tommee tippee bottles- these were on offer in asda and were cheaper than just buying 3!There are 2 pink, 2 purple and 2 blue bottles and they are super cute! I know we probably didn't need more bottles but it can't hurt to be prepared ☺

🍼6 soothers (dummies)- again we weren't sure how many we needed. JJ picked 2 packs of 2 and I picked the other one. The 2 that I picked have glow in the dark handles on them so we can easily see them during the night, and they are all tommee tippee ones suitable from birth.

🍼4 bibs- we need more but this is all we have for the moment. We got the tommee tippee bibs suitable for 0+ months, the ones with the extra cushion bit around the neck. We actually got these from home bargains as we thought they were cheaper there than in mother care and came in yellow rather than just pink and blue.

🍼3 muslin cloths- again I think we need more of these, we got them from asda in the baby toddler event and they are just white with silver stars on them. I think these will come in useful for a lot of things as they are very multi tasking!

🍼tommee tippee perfect prep- this is for when the baby is bottle fed and helps to make the perfect bottle. You just add the water and formula and the perfect prep makes it to the right amount and temperature for the baby. We got this as a present off my sister as we had been told it was something that we needed to get by a few people with young children.

Packing a hospital bag for baby

Hi pixierinios ☺
Although I am only 30 weeks, I do like to be organised (read: I'm impatient and want everything sorting as soon as I think of it ) and after doing A LOT of shopping for baby last night I decided to pack the hospital bag with baby things.
By hospital bag I do just mean I put everything into the changing bag for now.
The changing bag is one we got free from boots parenting club and honestly I want a different one but JJ says it would be a waste of money  It is black with silver lining and has  two pockets on the front and one bigger pocket at the back. Inside there is a travel changing mat in grey, a zip pocket, two smaller pockets and the big compartment.

I am not entirely sure what I need to take for the baby as it is a while away and I'm not sure how long we would be in hospital for but here is what I have for now:
3 bodysuits- one is long sleeved incase it is cold and says I love mummy and daddy which I thought was super cute! The other two have short sleeves, one has stars all over it and the other one says I like sunny days.

2 sleepsuits - one is plain white but the other is super cute and probably what I would want the baby to travel home in.

baby blanket- this was recommended that we take by the mothercare website. It is soft cotton on one side and fleecey on the other but I have seen a Winnie the pooh blanket that I like a little better so if we buy that then I will probably swap them in the bag.

baby wipes- I have a pack of 64 little angel baby wipes as they would come in handy for more than just the baby, they are the sensitive unscented version and are suitable from birth.

Nappies -I haven't actually put these in yet but I will be putting a few in the bag at a later date. I'm not sure whether size 1 or 2 would be best though as it depends on how big the baby is. We are currently only going to use Pampers as it is a name we trust but I have been told that the nappies from Aldi are just as good but cheaper.
A comforter- I didn't want to take an actual teddy bear or toy in as my family will probably bring one with them but I do want the baby to have something to cuddle so we bought one of the comforter things with the teddy bear holding a blanket for the baby to cuddle.
That's all I have in there for now but I will probably be adding bottles incase I can't breast feed and maybe a soother?
What did you pack in the baby hospital bag?
