Hi everyone,
I am a new mammy (well mammy to be) and I am blogging about my life, my pregnancy/parenthood and beauty.
Everything I mention has been bought and paid for by myself (or as a present off family members) unless otherwise stated (so probably everything is bought by me ☺) and all opinions are my own.

I'm proud of my baby

I really want to share with you all that baby girl said hia daddy to her dad yesterday! I thought it might have been a fluke but she said it to him a couple of times and held her arms out for a cuddle! It was so cute!!
She has also been quite clever in that she has figured out how to play with the activity tree. She knows to put the balls in the top and she knows to press the buttons on the front, and she loves to press on the red log!it is so cute!!
I just wanted to share how proud I am of her

Duck bath

I have so many half written posts it is unreal!I really need to get my act together!!

Today I want to talk about baby baths. Well, kind of. I got a baby bath for baby when we first had her, but she didn't like it so I ended up buying a foam bath support to go in the big bath (which went mouldy as I didn't dry it out well enough so had to buy a new one). But as baby can now sit up unaided, I wanted her to sit up properly in the bath. My mam found a seat to use in the bath, but when I looked at it,  it was hard plastic and I wasn't sure how comfortable that would be for baby. Then I saw the inflatable duck bath.
I'm not going to lie, I wanted it for myself. It is basically an inflatable duck shaped bath made for babies aged 6 months to 24 months (I think). Baby loves it!
When I fill it with water, it reaches about half way between baby's tummy and her shoulders which I think is perfect for her. I lie her back to wash her hair, and it is a little bit awkward as I am used to her lying fully down on the bath support, but her head rests against the ducks bum  (haha) and she seems comfy enough while I'm doing it. It's like she's lying the way I do in the bath as when her head is on the bum her legs can lie flat as if she is relaxing in the bath :)
She sits up to play, and the bath has a non slip texture which is really good. She has tipped over once, but by that I mean she lost her balance and fell against the duck but as the duck is inflatable it cushioned her and she thought it was hilarious. I have given her light up ducks to play with and she loves just sitting in the bath and playing!
I think this bath is a really good idea as it is just like us going in the bath as it is the perfect size for her!!

Baby massage

Before I started doing baby massage I was umming and aahing over whether or not to do it. I'd heard people say it was really good but then people had told me it wasn't any good and didn't do anything.
I can't remember why I decided to do it, I might have been bored that day and decided to sign up for it, but I'm so glad I did.
I am 3 lessons into it (out of 5) and I've now incorporated the massage that I know so far into her bedtime routine.
I do the massage after her bath, and it has been amazing so far. She falls asleep almost immediately afterwards, and she sleeps longer through the night too!
I was using normal johnsons baby oil but a couple of days ago I switched to the bedtime baby oil to compliment the baby bath and since using that she has slept through the night! I think it is the combination of the massage and the smell as when I was just applying the bedtime lotion it didn't really affect her at all.
Not only does it help her to sleep, it helps to bond us a bit more too as it is special time dedicated to just me and her. She gets quite excited just before the massage and I think she knows what's coming so she must enjoy it ☺

I would recommend giving it a go even if it's not for you I think it is worth trying just in case.

What have you done today to make you feel proud #1

I love miranda the show, and watching it has given me an idea for a blog post series.

What have you done today to make you feel proud? Has to be sung in the way stevie sings it.

I thought writing down what I have done each day that made me feel proud would maybe get me out of the weird depressed mood that I have been in lately.
They will be very short posts but will hopefully be a daily thing.

So my answer today is:
I helped someone reverse their car out of a tight parking space.
This may not seem something to be proud of but it made her feel better and I am usually the one that needs to be helped 😂

What have you done today to make you feel proud?

A&e and hot water

I know that most people reading this will probably judge me as a mother and say that this would never happen to them but tonight I had to take my daughter to a&e because she got hot water on her.
When I feed her I put her bowl into a bowl of hot water, which I did put on the tray of her highchair as I didn't think she could reach it. She put her hand into the hot water and pulled the bowl over, spilling hot water over her legs.
She screamed, I jumped up pulled her trousers off and ran into the kitchen with her to put her under cold running water. While doing this I rang the nhs 111 service (I can't remember the name of the woman I spoke to, I think it was Anne, but I would like to thank her for her amazing service and help. She was lovely and calmed me down while sorting everything out) who told me that the out of hours doctor would ring me and to keep running cold water for between 10-30 minutes, and if she was sick we had to ring back.
Literally as I hung up, baby was sick so we rang straight back and we're told to go to a&e despite there not being any blisters or waxy material, because of her age.
I drove round straightaway and we were seen immediately by a nurse who said that everything looked fine but she wanted a doctor to double check. By this point baby's skin had returned to a normal colour as if nothing had happened.
About an hour later we saw the doctor who agreed baby was fine, and there were no marks on her. I apologised for wasting their time and was reassured that it was the best thing to do as burns on babies can be awful so it is always best to get checked out. He also said that the reason there were no scalding was because of the quickness that I cooled the areas down.  If I had waited the outcome could have been very different.
Although baby is fine (and after the initial shock and crying which only lasted about a minute she was fine and playing) I did get a scare and I know that it was stupid putting the water on her tray. But I genuinely didn't think she could reach it, and I now know that I can't think like that about anything.
I hope none of you judge me for what happened and I know we were very lucky that nothing worse came from this but if this story helps anyone at all then I will be happy.
If nothing else I hope to bring attention to firstly the nhs 111 service, which I hate when I'm working in the lab; but I actually do find it very useful as an actual user. And secondly, to let people know that the quicker you can get a burn or scald to running cold water the better the outcome will be. The longer the area is allowed to be hot, the more likely the underlying area is to become exposed to latent heat which is where the burns come from. Every second counts.

My new years eve

For the first year since I was a little child,I was in bed by 10pm. I did wake up at midnight but that was purely accidental as I only woke up because the neighbours set fireworks off!

Previous years have seen me at parties, including the one when my dad got really drunk and tried to strip the woman next door 😳 , and other years when we have just been in my parents house eating party food and drinking, and one year I was working but I have always seen in the new year with a toast and a rendition of auld lang syne.

Despite not being at a party, or having a drink, this is probably the happiest I have been at new year simply because when I woke up, the fireworks also woke my baby up and so I saw in the new year getting a cuddle off my little girl and looking at her sleepy but happy face. I can honestly say that this year I know is going to be amazing because I have her in my life.

So getting snap chats off my friends who were all out having a good time didn't even make me jealous because I got to cuddle my baby girl back to sleep and got my midnight kiss off her (not quite the same type of kiss as my friends were having though 😂).

Next year I might go back up to my parents house for a party (if I'm not working) but I honestly think that staying in again next year will be just as good.

What did you do for new years eve?

Cradle cap and baby

I didn't know what cradle cap was, until I realised baby had it! I'm not too sure how it feels for her but she does scratch it sometimes and when she does, some of it comes away but it also brings some of her hair with it! This can't be nice for her so on the advice of my mam we got her some olive oil to apply.

We apply it on a night time and wash her hair on a morning, although I thought we should apply it during the day and wash it off on a night to keep the bath as part of her bedtime routine but hubby knows best 😛

We have only been using it about a week, and to be honest I haven't noticed much of a difference so far but when we went to my parents for Christmas hubby also got some shampoo specially made to target cradle cap so I used that for the first time yesterday.

I am hoping that something helps with the cradle cap soon as I feel quite sorry for baby! It's not nice to look at or feel and it can't be nice for her and all I want is for her to be happy!

I will let you know if either the oil or the shampoo works 😀
